Firefox keywords

June 3, 2007

Firefox keyword is a feature of Firefox. I mentioned it briefly in my previous post.

Basically it generates URL with or without parameters %s from a saved “keyword” associated with an URL.

For example:

Benefits:

  • Make shortcuts of long URLs
  • command-line searches
  • By-pass required user-pass login

Some examples:

  • keyword gmap –> URL
  • g –> google search
  • gm –> gmail.com
  • gebook –> URL
  • gmusic –> URL

I use Foxmarks to synchronize Bookmarks so I can use FF keyword from any of my computers.
